With proven leadership, national and international practice and professional experience, decades of AIA leadership, and a positive collaborative approach, Joyce seeks to lead with clarity, advocacy, and purpose, championing architects as essential contributors to a better environment and a more resilient and sustainable future.
A clear plan for the profession
In her roles as AIA President-Elect and President, Joyce will champion the AIA’s recently approved PACE Strategic Plan through four strategic priorities:
Practice: Defending profitability in a disrupted market.
Equipping firms of every size to navigate AI, protect fees, and build sustainable practices. Informed by over 30 years in practice, Joyce brings a clear, practical lens - demystifying complexity and sharing tools that strengthen the profession as a whole.
Advocacy: Making architects visible leaders.
Transforming the AIA from a professional guild into a public-facing force - helping every member communicate architecture’s value clearly, plainly, and persuasively. Joyce’s lifelong philosophy: “Communicating value” isn’t a PR exercise. It’s a survival strategy.
Climate: Delivering real, place-based resilience.
Moving beyond abstract targets toward practical, regionally grounded design strategies—because resilience on the Gulf Coast is not the same as resilience in the Pacific Northwest, a distinction Joyce emphasizes through her work.
Equity: Real pathways to firm ownership.
Advancing the profession beyond entry-level access - with formal mentorship pipelines and procurement networks for all, including women and minority-owned firms. Joyce built one. She knows how.
Together, we will deliver meaningful value to our members, our communities, and the future of our profession.“ - Joyce Owens FAIA RIBA
